MapleStory Guild Quest Guide by brodover

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview
Guild Quest (GQ) is a quest for people from the same guild to participate in together. The guild gets Guild Points (GP) for completing the 4 stages and killing the boss (Ergoth). The faster the whole GQ is done, the more GP you get after killing Ergoth. The top 50 guilds with the highest GP will be displayed on a board/rock found in towns and at the Excavation Site (where the GQ starts).

The experience points gained from doing GQ is very little, mostly from killing monsters/boss. GQ is not your average Party Quest (PQ) where you get loads of experience points.

However, after killing the boss, there is a bonus stage where the rewards include rare drops like skill books, pink capes (unconfirmed), scrolls and summoning bags.

Requirements
1. The Guild Master or a Jr. Master has to register and lead the guild.
2. At least 6 guild mates throughout the entire GQ.
3. Thief with maxed Haste (for Stages 2 and 4).
4. Magician with maxed Teleport (for Stage 2). Untested: level 15+ or 17+ Teleport being enough
5. Level 50++ ranged or full screen AOE attacker (for Stage 4). Ranged attackers with max range (might require Haste to jump shoot) or full screen AOE
6. Thief with Dark Sight or Wind Breaker with Wind Walk, at least level 5 to be safe (for Stage 2).
7. One or two level 10 to 30 attacker, best if level 25 and above (for Stage 4).
8. A few 4th job attackers. Or Chief Bandit with maxed Meso Explosion (Boss Stage).
9. [Optional] Priest/Bishop for dispel and heal (various stages + Boss Stage).

Points to Note
1. There can be a maximum of 30 guild mates in the same GQ.
2. You don’t have to form a party to get in (this is a guild quest, not a party quest), though it’s good to have a party to share party skills (haste, heal, dispel, hyper body, etc) during the 4 stages. You can reform the parties any time during GQ.
3. 1% experience points will be lost if you die during GQ.
4. You will be sent to the map before Stage 1 if you die, and can continue GQing.
5. To leave the GQ anywhere from earring map to Ergoth’s map, click on the Returning Rock. If there are less than 6 people, or if the Squad Leader leaves, then everyone will be forced out too.
6. For experienced and high levelled guilds, the entire quest can be finished in 30 minutes or less. I think the record is 11 minutes. For guilds new at GQ, expect loads of confusion and exasperation and finishing in about an hour (or not finishing at all, due to members getting disconnected or logging out).

Getting There

1. In Perion, exit from portal on the right, above the dungeon portal. You should be at Perion Street Corner.
2. Head right all the way till you reach Rocky Road III.
3. Take the topmost portal and continue till you reach the Excavation Site.

Registration
1. Only the Guild Master or a Junior Master can register. I’ll refer to this person as Squad Leader.
2. The Squad Leader should click on Shuang and then click Register for the Guild Quest.

3. If it’s your guild’s turn (an icon will appear in the top right of your screen), Squad Leader should click on Shuang again to enter the waiting map. Other members should enter only after the Squad Leader has entered or risk getting disconnected.

4. After the Squad Leader enters the waiting map, the other guild members have 3 minutes (before the countdown timer reaches 1hr 30min) to click on Shuang and enter the waiting map too.
5. At 1hr 30min, the portal will be opened.
6. Before the countdown timer reaches 1hr 30min, you can get out of this map by using the portal in the top right and re-enter by clicking on Shuang again.

Wearing the Protector Rock
1. Upon entering the portal, you will notice purple crystals stuck in the cliffs.

2. Attack the crystal till a purple earring drops out.

3. Everyone should equip one and head to the portal at the top of the map.
4. This second map with some purple crystals is where you will spawn if you die during GQ. Do not whack the crystals here as those who drop their earrings can only get new ones in this map.

5. Make sure you have your earrings equipped before entering the next map, which is also the first stage.
6. If you unequip your protection earrings anytime during GQ from stage 1 to bonus stage, you will die.
7. You won’t be able to equip your usual earrings during GQ.

Stage 1
This stage is a game of memory. In this map, you’ll see three rows of statues or a total of 20 statues. There are three rounds in this stage, with increasing difficulty. In each round, a sequence of statues will flash, after which, guild members should whack the statues in the same order.

The difficult part of this stage is that one person cannot see all the statues at the same time; hence it would require coordination to complete this stage. The easiest way is to have two guild members coordinate, while the rest sit in the centre of the map where the door is and keep quiet.

Both of the coordinating guild members should stand on the platform in line with the bottom row of statues (see screen shots below). If the Squad Leader is doing this stage, he/she should take the right side where he/she can click the lion statue to start.

Left side.

Right side.

The first round consists of a sequence of 4 statues; second round consists of 5 statues; and the third and final round consists of 6 statues.

The two persons doing this stage should have a pen and paper ready if their memory isn’t good. Draw circles in place of each statue, 11 for the person on the left and 9 for the person on the right (see example below for pictures). When a statue glows, write down the number of the sequence in which it glowed after calling out the number.

The two persons doing this stage can start without waiting for the rest of the guild mates to reach this map, as long as the Squad Leader is there to click on the lion statue.

Example
Squad Leader and another person are doing the third round of this stage:-

Squad Leader: rdy?
Person: rdy
*Squad Leader clicks the lion statue and immediately types “go”*
Squad Leader: go

*First statue glows on the right*
Squad Leader: 1
*Second statue glows on the left*
Person: 2
*Third statue glows on the right*
Squad Leader: 3
*Fourth statue glows on the left*
Person: 4
*Fifth statue glows on the left*
Person: 5
*Sixth statue glows on the left*
Person: 6

*Since first statue glowed on the right, Squad Leader goes to it and hits it,
and says “1d”. (d for done.)*
Squad Leader: 1d

*Person whacks 2nd statue.*
Person: 2d

*Squad Leader whacks 3rd statue.*
Squad Leader: 3d

*Person whacks 4th, 5th, and 6th statue in the right sequence.*
Person: 456d

*Squad Leader clicks the lion statue to complete.*

Tips
1. Jump once when on the viewing platform so that the top row of statues will not be blocked by the timer.
2. Minimise the mini map so that you can see the top row of statues clearly.
3. The two members should equip short weapons so as not to accidentally whack other statues. (No spears or pole arms for example)
4. Keep haste on to speed movement up.
5. Jump hitting the middle row of statues from the lower platforms may cause you to accidentally whack other statues instead (especially with long weapons). To be on the safe side, drop to the platforms between the statues in the middle row and crouch poke them to avoid whacking other statues.
6. All other members should not talk in all/party/guild chats so that the two members can see what each other is saying.
7. All other members should not move about so as not to distract the two members.
8. Cross out past sequences on your paper or you might mix them up with your current ones.
Alternative Methods
Personally, I've tried methods 1 and 2 too, but I found the above method best as it requires only 2 reliable members to do the job. I haven't tried method 3, but it sounds good as it doesn't require pen and paper like mine.

1. Instead of having only 2 persons doing this stage, this method involves everyone. The guild members should position themselves so that they are able to mark all the statues easily.

When a statue flashes, the person in charge of that statue is to call out the number in party/guild chat and then hop over to that statue and mark it. You can mark using mesos and items depending on what you have agreed on together previously (10, 50, 100, 1k, hp pot, mp pot for 1 to 6 or multiple coins like one 10, two 10, etc).

If you have a bunch of guild mates who knows what to do, this method will work fine. However, if most of them are new to GQ, it's best to stick to 2 experienced GQers.

2. Another method is to use post-its with numbers on them to stick on your screen as the statues flash. It sounds like a plan, but in actual fact, it is more troublesome than writing on paper.

This is because when you move about, the pieces of stick paper may block your view or the post-its will not be in the correct position so you may have to estimate where the statue was or move back to the viewing position to see which it was.

3. This method uses the keyboard to mark the statues. For example, for the statues on the left, the keys "Q W E R" marks the top row of statues, followed by "A S D" for the middle row, and "Z X C V" for the bottom row. The right side can probably use "U I O P", "K L", and "B N M" or whatever you like.

So the persons using this method could shout out the number and type in the alphabet at the same time (e.g. "1U", "2Z", "3Q", etc).

To Stage 2

When the first stage is done, head through the gate in the middle of the map (and the guild will get 15 GP for Stage 1). Walk through the corridor to reach the second stage.

Stage 2
In this stage, the guild has to acquire four Longinus Spears (one-of-a-kind etc items, which means you can’t hold more than one Longinus Spear at any one time) and place them on altars. You will encounter monsters and jump quests (JQ) here. There are four rooms in this stage.

Room of Glory (Room 1)
The bottommost room contains three spears, each atop a separate jump quest. People who are not needed in the other rooms, or are good at jumping, should come here.

Get to the top of all three jump quests, and there will be a spear chained each. Attack it till it drops out, then jump and pick it up.

It's a good idea to inform your guild members that you're done so that they do not have to waste their time trying and then reaching the top to find the spear gone. Since the room is called Room of Glory, you can say "g1 done" for the left most JQ. You could also call them by the colour of the lasers of each JQ; blue, yellow, red from left to right.

Since you can only pick up one spear at a time, you can either pass the spear to another guild mate and do another JQ, or place the spear yourself (refer to Room 4).

See post #11 for video guides on the JQ.

Room of Courage (Room 2)
The room on the middle platform contains Muscle Stones and one Master Muscle Stone (holding the key). Level 70+ attackers should be able to kill them easily.

The Muscle Stones and Master Muscle Stone look almost the same, except for the buckle which holds their 'belts'; MMS has a round one, while MS has a square/diamond one.

Kill MMS and take his key; drop it at the door to Room 3 to open it.

Room of Faith (Room 3)
When you have gotten the key from the Room 2, drop it outside the top left room to open it.

In this room, there are Dark Muscle Stones which will probably one hit KO you, so do avoid them.

A magician with Teleport should teleport past the pillars on the bottom platform. There is a pile of rubble hiding a wooden box at the right most end of the platform.

Attack it till a rusty key drop out. Pick it up and teleport out. Pass the rusty key to a thief with Dark Sight. The thief should go into Dark Sight and walk past the Dark Muscle Stones.

Drop the rusty key in front of the door at the end of the platform and go through the door. The last Longinus Spear is chained there.

Whack it till it drops out. Jump and pick it up. Get into Dark Sight before leaving the room, and walk back. Then place the spear or pass the spear to be placed in Room 4.

Room of Justice (Room 4)
The top right room consists of four lanes. Each leads to an altar at the top. Get hold of a spear from either the Room 1 or the Room 3 and come here.

The left most lane can be climbed by anyone. Haste, Flash Jump, Recoil Shot helps speed it up.

The second lane requires Haste.

The third requires nothing as well, but there is a combination to get to the top. Jump to the third row of platforms, then follow this sequence: 215 2212 (platform number, counting from the left).

The fourth lane requires Teleport. Maxed Flash Jump can also work, with a bit more effort.

At the top of each lane, drop the spear in the middle of the altar, and ensure that it transforms into a winged gem.

To Stage 3
Once all four spears have been placed, the bottom right portal in the main area will be unlocked. Exit through it, and you’ll appear in another corridor (and the guild will get 20 GP). Low level members should stay in this corridor till the monsters in the next room have been cleared.

Stage 3
This stage is a game of logic, similar to Mastermind. The Black Knights and Myst Knights in the main area will drop medals and scrolls respectively. The monsters will sometimes have either super WA defence or super MA defence. Level 70+ WA and MA attackers should be able to defeat them easily.

The Squad Leader and his party should kill the monsters so that the Squad Leader will be able to pick up all 8 items (4 each).

If the items are not picked up, they will disappear like normal drops. So make sure you have all 8, check behind the pillars and with your guild mates if some are still missing.

The rest of the members should split up to the two rooms in the top right and top left to collect the rest of the items. Low level members can come in and help or stay on the upper platforms to escape the monsters which will spawn when the Squad Leader tries different combinations.

The room in the top left contains boxes, out of which, four will drop wine.

The room in the top right contains metal covers, out of which, four will drop food.

The Squad Leader has 7 tries to get the combination right. Place one item in front of each of the four statues in the main area. Click on the lion statue and read what he has to say. Click End Chat or Esc so that monsters will not spawn even if the answer is wrong, or else, just fight the Black Knight and Myst Knight that appear to the left and right.

The lion statue will tell you how many items are Correct, Incorrect or Unknown.

Correct – the item is in the combination and the correct position
Incorrect – the item is in the combination but not in the correct position
Unknown – the item is not in the combination

Points to Note
1. If the correct combination cannot be obtained within 7 tries, a lot of monsters will spawn, and the combination will be reset, so you will have to start over again.
2. If the items are left for too long, they will disappear and go back to the person who picked it up. Only the person who first picked the item can repick the item.

Tips
1. This is a link to a guide to solve this. I find it quite difficult to digest, but you may understand more from this: Qu33nDiT's guide
2. What I do is start off with 4 items of the same kind (example, medals), and see how many are correct or unknown. If I have 3 unknowns, I remove 3 medals from the right, and replace them with scrolls. Click again. If I have 1 unknown, I remove the rightmost scroll, and replace with either food or wine, and rearrange the medals/scrolls so that I will have more corrects. Continue rearranging till I get all correct.
3. The Squad Leader can start solving the sequence with the medals and scrolls obtained from the monsters while the rest of the guild members collect wine and food. By doing so, he/she can inform his/her party on the minimum amount of wine and food he/she will need.
4. You can also purposely reset the combination if the combination does not seem advantageous. There is no penalty to the number of times tried, except for the monster spawn. So you can try resetting to get 2 or 3 of the same kind.

Once the combination is right, a secret door to the left of the statues will open.

To Stage 4
Upon entering, the guild gets 25 GP and they should appear in Stage 4.

Stage 4
In this stage, there are 4 sewer holes which lead to a piece of Sharen III’s clothing at the end. You will need all 4 to proceed to the boss stage. The red dots mark the entrances to the different holes.

After getting the piece of clothing from the different rooms, there will be an exit which leads to a common area.

Hole 1

To get to this hole, press up at the bottom middle sewer of the first set of sewers, and then jump down to it.

There are 9 Puppet Golems which drop a Sign of Evil each.

Level 70+ attackers should be able to dispose of these easily

Drop all 9 Signs of Evil at the door on the right, and it will open to a jump quest.

At the end of the jump quest is Sharen III’s Pants in a crate.

Exit to the common last map with the Pants to get 5 GP. You can return to the sewers map by going back all the way.

Hole 2

To get to this hole, press up at the bottom middle sewer of the first set of sewers, and then jump to the bottom left sewer and press up.

You will be transported to the last set of sewers. Jump to the bottom left sewer and press up. You will be transported to the second set of sewers. Jump to the bottommost sewer and press up to enter the room.

Only someone with maxed Haste will be able to get to end of the jump quest. Any mobility skills will be useful here. Jump to the top right of the map to get to Sharen III’s Shoes in a crate.

Exit to the common last map with the Shoes to get 5 GP. You can return to the sewers map by going back all the way.

Hole 3
This hole can only be entered by someone level 30 and under. To get to this hole, either walk to it or press up at the bottom middle sewer of the first set of sewers, and then jump to the top left sewer and press up. You will be transported to the third set of sewers. Enter the bottommost sewer.
<< 38 >>

There are 20 Devil Slimes in here, which drop a Sign of Evil each.

Level 25 to 30 should be able to kill these easily. Haste would be good for ranged attackers. Any other buffs would be nice too.

Collect all 20 Signs and place them at the door in the top right corner.

The door unlocks to a jump quest. You can cheat a little by tweaking the graphics quality to the lowest/fastest. You will be able to see through some of the pillars. Jump to the end to get Sharen III’s Crown in a crate.
<< 41 >>

There's a video guide for half of this JQ in post #11.

Exit to the common last map with the Crown to get 5 GP. You can return to the sewers map by going back all the way.

Hole 4
To get to this hole, press up at the bottom middle sewer of the first set of sewers, and then jump to the bottom left sewer and press up. You will be transported to the last set of sewers. Enter the middle sewer.

Ranged or full screen AOE attackers will be required to kill the Gargoyle on top.

There is a sewer slightly to the right in the map, press up to be transported to the top left where you can hit the Gargoyle. For AOE attackers, stand on the sewer hole and use your AOE instead.

When it is dead, kill the Jr. Gargoyles at the bottom of the map to collect 8 Signs of Evil.

Drop all 8 Signs at the door on the right.

The door unlocks to a map with Sharen III’s Cloak in a crate at the top of the map. Get there by using the transporting sewers.

Exit to the common last map with the Cloak to get 5 GP. You can return to the sewers map by going back all the way.

To Boss Stage
Once all 4 pieces of clothing has been collected, drop them in this order (Shoes, Pants, Cloak, Crown) on Sharen III's body, and it will ‘consume’ the items. Sharen III’s spirit will appear and unlock the door. (All guild members doing the GQ has to be in this room before the door will be unlocked.) Upon entering the next room, you will receive 30 GP.

Sacrifice
In the next room, there will be a door at the end. The lowest level member should stand in front of the door and drop his/her earring straight from his/her equipments. Do not unequip, or you will die before you can drop the earrings from your inventory. He/she will die and the door should open. 1% experience points to a low level member is nothing really. He/she will still have an overall gain from killing the devil slimes.

This door leads to the boss stage. The person who sacrificed should equip another Protector Rock so as to enter the Bonus Stage without dying. He/She can remain in the map he/she spawned in or walk back to watch the boss fight.

To get back to the Boss Stage, go all the way through Stages 1 to 3. At Stage 4, the fastest way is to enter through Hole 4.

Those who do not want to fight the boss but want to be in the same room (mostly those below level 90) can head to a crack in the pillar near the middle of the room and press up.

They will be transported to the boss stage, but will not be hit by the boss. The spikes on the right deal about 1k damage, so stay away if you don’t want to die.

The crank just before the spikes can be attacked to raise the chandelier/gargoyle sitting on it slightly. Untested: Raising the Gargoyle and then killing it will stop Jr. Gargoyles from spawning (how to kill?). Or hitting the crank will cause it to drop on Ergoth to deal some damage (highly doubt this works...). Or maybe it just does nothing.

To leave the top platform, you will either have to die (by banging the spikes, or unequipping earrings) or click the returning rock to leave the GQ or kill the boss and be transported to the bonus stage.

Boss Stage
When you are ready, hit the crystal on Ergoth’s throne to spawn the boss and his guardian statues.

The 4 statues support Ergoth in the fight, but you will only need to kill Ergoth to get to bonus stage.

Although killing the statues is not required, ranged attackers will have to kill the statues to the left of Ergoth before they are able to attack him. You will need about 4k hp to survive Ergoth’s damage. Ergoth and the gargoyle sitting above him both summon mobs. Knight Statue A can dispel, so prepare to rebuff. Magicians should not stand on top of statues/boss as the moment you are dispelled, you will die (without 4k hp). He can heal about 30k HP and can cast super WA defence/ super MA defence. One of the statues (Knight Statue B) can also lower both your HP and MP to 1. Statues/Ergoth can cast slow and skill lock.

Level: 115
HP: 1.7m
Avoid: 18
EXP: 150k

Ranged attackers should stand to the left of Ergoth and his statues. Melee can stand near Ergoth to tank the statues and him. Priests/Bishops should stand in between ranged and melee, slightly to the left of the statues so that they can heal/dispel both sides while not getting one hit KO if they get dispelled standing on the statues/Ergoth.

High level attackers (a few 14x and above) will be able to take Ergoth down quickly and efficiently.

For low level attackers, bombing the boss is probably the fastest way. Drop the bags near the crystal before whacking it. Be careful of the super WA defence. HB and spam heal (in case of dispel) may be required if it takes longer than a few seconds. Tested: Level 83 Chief Bandit is able to kill Ergoth with maxed Meso Explosion bombing 350k in bags of 4k each in a few seconds. Or 800k in bags of 10k using level 5 Meso Explosion in about a minute.

Untested: at least one character has to remain in the throne room for other guild members to keep re-entering upon dying. This character can include those who go through the crack in the pillar to the 2nd level.

When Ergoth dies, he will drop a crystal. Pass it to the Squad Leader. You only need the crystal to progress, so leaving any statues remaining is fine.

The Squad Leader will need to click on the lion statue to get GP according to how fast the entire GQ was done, and to enter the bonus stage. You can get 850 GP if you complete within 20 minutes, about 400 GP if completed within 40 minutes or about 350 if completed within 50 minutes.

Points to Note
1. The Squad Leader should not enter the crack in the pillar in the previous map as he/she would not be able to click on the lion statue from the platform above.
2. Do not jump and drop the crystal with maxed Haste on, or it might end up on the small platform holding the returning rock and you will not be able to retrieve it.

Bonus Stage
There are many boxes strewn around this map. You can get to some of the platforms by pressing up at cracks in the pillars. You have 40 seconds to hit as many boxes as you can. Untested: faster runs yields better items.
