[GUIDE] MapleStory item Maker Guide+Magic Powder drop list+Q&A section

What is "Maker skill"?

Maker skill is a newly released Beginner skill that allows players with a job other than Beginner to create equipment for their job class, you can create anywhere in the Maple world using a select "recipe" of items.

Using the skill, one can also increase (or in some cases, decrease) the base stats of the item during production through the use of additional items.

The Maker skill is a skill that any classed player (Pirate, Thief, Warrior, Archer, or Magician – Sorry beginners!) can obtain at level 45. You do this by going to Stan, an NPC in Magatia. Stan will give you a quest to go see “Hughes the Fuse” in Orbis Tower B2. After talking to Hughes, merely go back to Stan, and he’ll give you the skill! He also hands you a guidebook on how to use this skill. When you get it, the skill will be at level 1. You may level up this skill by performing later quests at level 75, and finally 105. You must level the skill in order to forge higher level equips.

  • Level 1 can only do equipments for level 50-70
  • Level 2 can do 50-100
  • Level 3 can do 50-120 (and presumably higher level than this, should they ever exist.)
You can set it to a Hotkey like most other skills.

You can use it to forge all the standard equips for your class, starting from level 50 (seeing as how weapons from 10-40 can simply be purchased from NPCs). In order to forge any particular equip, you must be at least 5 levels from being able to equip it. So, if I wanted to forge a level 70 weapon, I would need to be 65.
No, this skill may NOT be used to forge Maple weapons, Common class items (such as earrings or capes), or “gachapon” items, such as Stonetooth Sword/Ribgol. It MAY be changed when it gets to JMS or other versions, to forge equipments native to those versions. This is far from confirmed, however.

How do I get the Maker skill?
Once you reach Lv45, head over to Magatia to meet Meren, who is in the portal to the right of Phyllia (left half of the town). Accept the quest "Meren's new discovery" and finish the three sub-quests. Each of the three quests require you to pay 10,000meso. Return to Meren to take a little quiz to test what you remember of the quest dialogue for each of the quests. After completing the quiz, you earn the Maker skill.

How do I use the Maker skill?
The Maker skill, as with Monster Rider and Legendary Spirit, will be registered in the Beginner's Skillbook (the "dot" tab). It is used like any other skill - you can either set it to a hotkey or double-click the icon in the Skill Menu. Upon activating it, a window opens, where you can click the drop-down menus to select the items you want to make. Remember that you only know the recipes for equipment of your class, and only if you are at most 5 levels below the level requirement for that piece of equipment. Once you have selected an item, the materials required are displayed, as well as how much of each material you have. Click "Create" to make the item once you have enough materials. Take note that Gachapon-exclusive equipment such as the Blade/Doomsday Staff can't be forged.

Is there any chance of failure?
There is absolutely no chance to fail when using the Maker skill, unless you add in a Stimulator. In this case, there will be a 10% chance of failure, but the equipment might have better stats if the forging succeeds. The chance of failure is reduced by the Hands stat, which is calculated by DEX+INT+LUK.

So will the stats of the equipment be fixed?
Nope, they may be below average, average, or above average. Of course, if you add in Stimulators or Jewels, you may get better stats than usual.

What is the "???" option for?
It's either not implemented yet or it's just a visual glitch. It has been speculated that it can be used to forge equipment from other classes, but it doesn't work now even if it's supposed to do that. If needed, the recipes for the equipments can be found at Link #1. A printable version (courtesy of chrisloup) can be found at Link #2.

Why can't I make any more equipment past Lv70?
Lv1 Maker skill only allows you to make equipment up to Lv70. In order to forge higher leveled equipment, you will have to complete a simple little quest at Lv75 to level up the Maker skill to Lv2. You will then be able to forge equipment up to Lv100. Similarly, at Lv105, you can complete yet another quest to attain Maker Lv3, which allows you to forge equipment up to Lv120 (maybe Lv200, but that remains to be seen). The quest procedures have been so kindly listed down by rainday37 here:

Level 3 require you to collect 6 Gold Plate, 2 Steel Plate and a Lidum.
Take note that Stan = Keol, and Lidum = Lithium.

What is "Disassembling"?
The "Disassemble" option destroys equipment to create monster crystals. It is likely that only forgeable equipment can be disassembled, and that you will receive the monster crystal required to forge it.

What is "Monster Crystal"?

Monster Crystal is a raw material that is required to make ALL equipment. Different grades and qualities of Monster Crystals are required for different sets of equipment. The better the equipment, the better the Crystals must be. Monster Crystals are made using the Maker skill, from 100 ETC drops of any monster Lv31 or higher that is NOT exclusive to World Tour maps (SG/MY included). Take note that you must have at least one empty ETC slot in order to turn the drops into Monster Crystals as you may get a better Crystal than the drop's supposed to give you.

Monster Crystals are forged from 100 ETC items from any monster. As new areas are released, the ETCs from those monsters are added (Such as Elin Forest monsters.) Monster crystals come in three grades, and are divided further into quality from that point. The quality and grade of a monster crystal are determined directly from the level of the monster that dropped the item. For example, if I went to hunt stone golems, I would get 100 Stone Golem Rubbles, and then use the Maker skill on them. They would forge a Low Grade Monster Crystal B, because Stone Golems are level 55. Only monsters over level 30 have ETC drops which can be used to make Monster Crystals. There is a SMALL chance that you can forge a higher quality Monster Crystal than the level range would indicate, however I have personally only had this happen when I used the skill many times in a row (Like after training, when I have 400 ETCs.) More testing needs to be done in this department.

Monster Crystal stats are as follows:
The Crystals you can get are as follows:

Low Grade Monster Crystal C

Basic Monster Crystal 1
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 31-50.

Low Grade Monster Crystal B

Basic Monster Crystal 2
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 51-60.

Low Grade Monster Crystal A

Basic Monster Crystal 3
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 61-70.

Mid Grade Monster Crystal C

Intermediate Monster Crystal 1
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 71-80.

Mid Grade Monster Crystal B

Intermediate Monster Crystal 2
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 81-90.

Mid Grade Monster Crystal A

Intermediate Monster Crystal 3
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 91-100.

High Grade Monster Crystal C

Advanced Monster Crystal 1
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 101-110.

High Grade Monster Crystal B

Advanced Monster Crystal 2
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 111-120.

High Grade Monster Crystal A

Advanced Monster Crystal 3
Forged from Monster ETCs from level 121-200.

Notice that the change between grades occurs at 70-80, and 100-110. this is significant because you may only level up your Maker Skill at level 75 and 105. You don’t have to be in a town or anything to use this skill, so if you fill up your inventory full of ETCs while training, you can take a moment on a safe spot and use this skill to consolidate your hundreds of ETCs to a handful of monster crystals. it’s pretty convenient.

Additionally, you can optionally add new “graded” jewels to the formula. These are made from your standard gems (Diamond, Garnet, etc.) by putting them through the maker skill and appraising them. Each time you do this, it takes 100k. It has a high rate of coming out as low grade, a fair rate of coming out as Mid grade, and a low rate of coming out as High grade. I think it’s 70%, 25%, 5%, but I’m not positive. The grade will be denoted by a tiny mark in the corner, like a scrolled item. To upgrade it, all you do is select from the drop down list the “Jewels” and then in the list beside it, pick out the jewel you are upgrading, and then hit go:

Like Legendary Spirit, it has a “loading bar” style, so you’ll have to wait a moment to see what you got. In this case, I got a low grade. The use of these graded jewels is totally optional.
The item usages are as follows (information provided by Loose, which was originally from a deleted post by Fiel on sleepywood):

Type of Crystal – Stat added – [Low Grade, Mid Grade, High Grade]

[Basic, Intermediate, Advanced]
Diamond: Weapon Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Sapphire: Magic Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Garnet: Accuracy [2, 3, 5]
Opal: Avoid [2, 3, 5]
Aquamarine: Jump [1, 2, 3]
Amethyst: Speed [1, 2, 3]
Topaz: HP [10, 20, 30]
Emerald: MP [10, 20, 30]
Black Crystal: Random [1, 2, 3]
Dark Crystal: Random [2, 3, 5]
Power Crystal: STR [2, 3, 5]
DEX Crystal: DEX [2, 3, 5]
Wisdom Crystal: INT [2, 3, 5]
LUK Crystal: LUK [2, 3, 5]
Secret Crystal: Level Requirement [-1, -2, -3] - Not yet available in game.

[Low Grade, Mid Grade, High Grade]
Every different type of gem has a different affect on the end item. The stat crystals add the stat they are related to (IE, Dex Crystal will add Dex, etc.) Diamonds add weapon Attack, but they can only be used on weapons. Sapphire adds Magic attack, so it is a separate gem, and mages won’t have to deal with price hikes on Diamonds. It, too, only works on weapons. These don’t affect the slots at all, so you end up with an above average item with different stats on it. There’s no chance of the item breaking if you add a graded jewel to the formula. This is great, because you can use this skill to add a stat that isn’t normally found on something (For example, use a LUK crystal to add luck to an overall, or shoes) and then start tossing Chaos Scrolls on it. It really opens a lot of doors when used in conjunction with Chaos Scrolls.

For a Maker Skill at level 1, you can only use 1 jewel per formula. I believe the number of jewels you can use goes up as you level the skill, meaning that at 105 you could use a total of 3 jewels on one forged equip. They don’t all have to be the same jewels, either. Since a high grade Diamond will add 3 weapon attack. According to Blitzkrieg (Shrapnel of KMS), you may only use one of a jewel type per equip. One diamond, be it high grade or low grade. Now you see why this skill is useful, no? pineappleing godly.

On top of all that, you can use stimulators to forge things as well. They created Overall Stimulators and hat stimulators and so on now, so there’s a stimulator available if you choose to use one. stimulators DO, however, add a chance of failing to the item, which at default is 10%. The higher your Hands stat is (OMFG HANDS IS USED FOR SOMETHING), the lower the failure rate is, but this doesn’t lower the odds of the item coming out below. Since Hands is calculated from total Dex+Int+Luk, warriors and Infighters (who have mostly STR) are really screwed over by this. archers and gunslingers will have a harder time than Mages and Thieves, who will have their Hands at maximum. Stimulators can also be used in conjunction with graded jewels. Either way, I wouldn’t recommend using a stimulator, because the benefit of having it is outweighed by the odds of it ruining your item.

There’s also a series of quests associated with the skill that involve using it to forge special quest items. It’s pretty neat, but in the end it’s a decoy for collecting the items to forge the quest item.

One other thing, is that there’s a “Mystery forging” option. You can put whatever materials you want in there and try to forge something. I have no idea what it’s for and I’ve never been able to make anything in this way. I assume that if you knew the formula to forge an equipment from another class, you could use this option to make it, however I can’t confirm this. It also costs mesos to forge items, however the amount is typically a pittance in comparison to the items’ cost, though it is almost always higher than the NPC price of that item.

Some downsides to this skill system? For one, it requires refined gems, however you can’t use this skill to make ores into refined gems. This means you’ll almost always have to hike off to a town with a refining NPC. It can also get quite expensive, what with 100k to grade a refined jewel and meso costs to forge items. You can’t add the jewels to a pre-existing item, so poorly scrolled items and below average ones will take a hit when this is released. On top of this, since each type of jewel now has 4 forms (The ordinary refined, ungraded form, and the three grades) you’ll be wasting a LOT more ETC space on this. I previously speculated that people would create new mules for the sole purpose of carrying excess gems, Monster Crystals, and Magic Powders.
So how about weapons that aren't "coloured"?
They require metal plates instead of Magic Powder. The metal plates required are:
Bronze - Lv50 for non-mage. Lv48 for wands, Lv55 for staves.
Steel - Lv60/70 for non-mage. Lv58/68 for wands, Lv65/75 for staves.
Mithril - Lv80/90 for non-mage. Lv78/88 for wands, Lv85/95 for staves.
Adamantium - Lv100/110 for non-mage. Lv98/108 for wands, Lv110 for staves.
Orihalcon - Lv120 for non-mage. Lv118 for wands, Lv120 for Staves.

What's with the "Jewel" option in the recipes?
You can add in graded jewels while forging equipment. You will have to use the Maker skill to grade the jewels before you can use them for forging. Different jewels give different stats to the equipment. You can't put in more than one of the same jewel for any equipment. Do take note that when using Black/Dark Crystal, the stats in question can change anywhere in the range of the negative and positive of their values (e.g. Advanced Dark Crystal can modify stats by any value from -5 to +5). Here is a list of the stats given by each of the jewels:

[Basic, Intermediate, Advanced]
Diamond: Weapon Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Sapphire: Magic Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Garnet: Accuracy [2, 3, 5]
Opal: Avoid [2, 3, 5]
Aquamarine: Jump [1, 2, 3]
Amethyst: Speed [1, 2, 3]
Topaz: HP [10, 20, 30]
Emerald: MP [10, 20, 30]
Black Crystal: Random [1, 2, 3]
Dark Crystal: Random [2, 3, 5]
Power Crystal: STR [2, 3, 5]
DEX Crystal: DEX [2, 3, 5]
Wisdom Crystal: INT [2, 3, 5]
LUK Crystal: LUK [2, 3, 5]
Secret Crystal: Level Requirement [-1, -2, -3] - Not yet available in game.

Anything I should take note of on the grading of jewels?
It is possible to upgrade the jewels you have. This requires 10 jewels of the same grade. However, according to GreyMan, it's not worth upgrading your jewels to make them better.

As you can see, the fee to make grade your jewels can be very costly, I think it is advisable to only grade them to basic grade and hoping to obtain an advance grade by chance. If not, you are going to waste a lot of meso..

I can't find (item's name)!
Check Hidden-street, you'll probably find it there. There are a few things that you may not be able to find though.

Thimble - Drops from Red Porky. Not listed in Hidden-street.

Strengthened Mithril Fragment - Drops from Reinforced Mithril Mutae. Hidden-street lists this as Hardened Piece of Mithril.

Cable Bundle - Drops from Roid. Hidden-street lists this as Wires. I'm pretty sure it's called Wires in-game as well.

Magic Powder - Not listed in Hidden-street. Check the next section of this guide. Some of the monsters are listed (your help is needed to locate all of them!)

Magic Powder

What is "Magic Powder"?
Magic Powder is a raw material that is required for all armour and coloured weapons (e.g. Dark Slain). Magic Powders are semi-rare, and you're unlikely to find even one without killing mobs for hours. They come in eight colours; Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Purple, Red, White and Yellow. Magic Powders are used as dyes for equipment, so they are used to make only equipment of the same colour as they are.

Magic powder comes in a large variety of colors, and depending on what color your equipment is, you’ll need different magic powder. Think of it as dye. Since pretty much every class has dark equipment, Black powder is very much in demand, and tends to be rarer. Pirates need a lot of brown. Weapons typically don’t need powders, unless it’s a weapon that comes in a large variety of colors (Such as Scarabs or Arunds) These drop from monsters at about the rate of ores, so they aren’t usually too hard to acquire. The problem is finding a monster that drops the color you need.

So which Magic Powder is the best?
There isn't one. Powders don't contribute to the stats of the items, just their colour. I guess you could argue that, in this case, Black & White powders would be the best, since black & white equips tend to give better stats. Anyway, all jobs have at least 1 black equip, so I guess Black Powders would be most in demand. White powders won't be far behind, though

Do monsters drop only powder of the same colour as they are?
The answer is no. Monsters drop whatever coloured powder the programmers made them drop. It has no link whatsoever to their own colour. There are a few of them who drop powders of the same colour as they are, however (e.g. Rumo drops green powder).

Timeless Equipment

Data for this was taken from AyumiloveMaple

OMG an entire section dedicated solely to Timeless Equipment?! Yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Timeless Equipments are so important they deserve an entire section, just like Magic Powder and Quests (these 2 have their own sections mainly because more space is needed).

So what are Timeless Equipments?
They are the Lv120 equipments for Maplestory. They are also "binding" equipments, meaning that once you equip them, they cannot be traded. So please think it through carefully before you equip them!

That sucks. What's so good about them then?
Timeless Equipments can level up. They gain ItemEXP when you train with them equipped. Every time they level up, the stats of the equipment will improve. Once it reaches max ItemLv, there's a small chance that it'll gain a Status Effect option, which will allow you to inflict status effects on the opponent with any attack. At max ItemLv, there is also a small chance that the equipment will grant you 1 SP to one of your skills (it's preset for each timeless/reverse equipment).

So what Status Effects will they gain?
- All warrior weapons = Seal, Darkness
- All thief weapons = Freeze, Slow
- All magician weapons = Darkness, Stun
- All pirate weapons = Seal, Damage
- All bowman weapons = ??? (Not in WZ files yet)

Seal - Seal your opponent for 10 seconds with a 10% probability.
Darkness - Put your opponent into darkness for 10 seconds with a 10% probability.
Stun - Stun your opponent for 5 seconds with a 10% probability.
Slow - Slow your opponent by 50 speed for 5 seconds with a 10% probability.
Freeze - Freeze your opponent for 5 seconds with a 10% probability.
Damage - [Not sure what this does. I got this from an online translator: 10% Odds, 30 seconds and continue to 50% damage every 10 seconds]

If you do manage to get one of the status effects, however, you will also get a +50 bonus HP recovery every 10 seconds.

What does this have to do with the Maker skill?
You can forge them using the Maker skill (that's why this is in this guide). As of now, Timeless equipment can ONLY be obtained via Maker skill, and Rock of Time can only be obtained by killing Pink Bean (ouch). This is a basic "skeleton" recipe for the Timeless equipments:
Weapons/Armour
Orihalcon Plates/Magic Powder [5/12]
Advanced Monster Crystal 2 [14/2] (4 for Overalls)
Advanced Monster Crystal 3 [20/10] (20 for Overalls)
Rock of Time [3/1]

In case you're wondering, all Timeless "body armour" are Overalls.

What is "Rock of Time"?
It's a new jewel used for forging Timeless equipment (as shown above). It is supposedly refined from Piece of Time.

What's this "Reverse" set then?
The Reverse set is the weaker Lv120 set. Like the Timeless set, it is binding and can level up. However, their ItemLv maxes out at a lower level than Timeless equipment (which means lower stats). They are dropped by Pink Bean, but you can also forge them using the Maker skill. Their recipes are exactly the same as Timeless equipments, except that they require Piece of Time instead of Rock of Time. Pieces of Time are dropped by all Time Temple monsters, including bosses (at a very low drop rate.)

Important Maker Notes
It is important to understand all of the following notes in order to achieve maximum success with the skill.

1. The maximum level of items that one can create is equal to "Character Level + 5". This means that a level 45 character could make any item which has an item level below 50, or a level 70 character could create items below item level 75.

2. You can only make items which are above item level 45.

3. You cannot use multiple gems of the same type on one equip. For example, this means you cannot use three diamonds or sapphires on a weapon. This also applies to the quality of the gem. So you cannot put one high quality sapphire, one mid quality sapphire, and one low quality sapphire all on the same equip because you can only have one sapphire in total on the equip.

4. You can only create items from your own job branch. As an example, pirates can only make pirate equips and not mage equips. However, a pirate can create both gun and knuckler equips, while a thief can create both claw and dagger equips, and so on and so forth.

5. You cannot create items which are common class, such as earrings and capes. You can also not create special items, such as Elemental Wands, iTCG equips, and Maple equips.

6. To make items that are beyond item level 75, you must upgrade Item Maker to level 2. To create items past item level 105, you must upgrade Item Maker to level 3.

7. Items which are below item level 75 can only have 1 imbued slot. Items below item level 105 but above 75 can only have 2 imbued slots. Items below item level 135 but above 105 can only have 3 imbued slots.

8. Item Maker is currently the easiest method of obtaining Lv. 120 Reverse equips in GMS, which are otherwise dropped by Pink Been. Item Maker is also the only method in the game to create Timeless weapons, but which cannot be made without the Rock of Time dropped by Pink Been.

9. Interesting Fact: Because you can add base stats to any item using stat crystals (Power, Wisdom, DEX, LUK), the Maker skill opens a whole avenue of doors to the possibilities of Chaos Scrolling forged equips. Now you can create high STR shoes if you'd like, or perhaps adding some INT to a few of your items for MP washing with an extra gem slot would be a great idea. The possibilities are endless!

Q&A
What if I have other questions?
Post them here for fellow forumites to answer them! I will answer them if I can, and likewise, if you know the answer to someone's question, please lend a helping hand. If the question is likely to be asked frequently, I will post it here as well, for future reference.

Q: What exactly do Black & Dark Crystals do?
A:
I've already answered this in the first post, but here's a more detailed explanation courtesy of chrisloup:

black modifies these stats (wa/ma/wdef/mdef/acc/avoid/spd/jmp). if these stats will appear on the weapon AFTER it has been made, then the use of black will modify these values (either positive, negative,or zero effect)
eg; a melee weapon will always have wa, you decide to make it with speed jewel and black. this means black will modify WA and SPD by the same amounts.

What does dark do?
basic = -1 to +1
inter = -3 to +3
adv = -5 to +5
Dark modifies these stats (str/int/luk/dex). if these stats will appear on the weapon AFTER it has been made, then the use of Dark will modify these values (either positive, negative,or zero effect)
eg; you decide to make a weapon and add str jewel, dex jewel and dark.
Dark Jewel will modify STR/DEX by the same amounts

Q: How do I get the skill?
A: The first and easiest requirement to meet is that you cannot be a beginner. Cygnus are allowed to use Maker as well, though similar to Explorers, Noblesse are not allowed to use the skill. The final requirement is that you must be at least level 45. Obtaining the skill is much easier: head to the the Weapon shop left of the entrance portal to Magatia and talk to Moren. He will ask you to enroll in classes with Carson, Hughes the Fuse, and himself, all at a price of 10k per class. Take each class before returning to Magatia where Moren will quiz you on your new knowledge. Don't worry about failing any of his quizzes, because there's no penalty, so continue to take them until you pass. Upon completion, Moren will grant you the level 1 Maker skill.

Congratulations! You now have Lv. 1 Maker

Below the text "Select the item..." there's a combo box so you can choose which item you want to make. The item requirements are then listed out on the table below it, as well as with any mesos required to forge the equip. The enhancer in the bottom left corner is for using stimulators with the equipment. The bottom right portion is for imbuing your equipment with appraised jewels.

Obtaining Lv. 2 Maker
To obtain Lv. 2 Maker, you must be at least Lv. 75. To being, speak with Moren and use your Maker skill to create the item he requests - 1 Medium Monster Crystal 1. This can be made through one of two methods discussed later in this post. He is a little picker with this quest and may reject the first crystal you preset him (thus causing you to lose the crystal), so keep giving him crystals until he likes your work. Upon completion, you are rewarded with Maker skill level 2.

Obtaining Lv. 3 Maker
To obtain Lv. 3 Maker, you must be a least Lv. 105. To begin, speak with a distressed Moren, finishing the conversation to have a Completed Quest bubble pop up on the floor beneath him. Click on this bubble to receive the Doodly Paper. To finish this quest, you must create the Gold Anvil item for Moren (choose ETC in the first Maker box, and then Gold Anvil in the second) by combining 6 Gold Plates, 2 Steel Plates, 1 Lidium, and the Doodly Paper. Once you have created the anvil, give it to a very pleased Moren to receive Maker skill level 3.

Q: What is Strengthening Gems and Crystals?
A: To begin, I'll answer the question everyone has been wondering: yes, using Item Maker you can create weapons and armors with higher-than-normal base stats. You can do so using two different types of items, the main being Strengthened Gems and Crystals.

Strengthening gems and crystals is relatively simple. To do so, head into your Maker UI and choose "Strengthen" from the first box of options. In the next box, choose the "Basic" level of whatever gem or crystal you want to strengthen - in other words, if you want to strengthen a Diamond, you would choose the "Basic Diamond" option. Each "strengthening" costs 110,000 mesos, so be wary of the cost to mass-strengthen gems and crystals.

The most important thing to remember about a strengthening is that you have a chance of creating either a Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced version of the gem or crystal. The probabilities vary depending on what you're upgrading (for example, you have a 70% chance of creating a Basic Diamond, a 25% chance for an Intermediate Diamond, and a 5% chance for an Advanced Diamond when "strengthening" Diamonds).

Also remember that you can only strengthen "clean" gems and crystals; if a gem or a crystal already has the word "Basic," "Intermediate," or "Advanced" in front of it's name, it cannot be strengthened using the Basic feature.

Here's the table of all strengthened gems and crystals:

[Basic, Intermediate, Advanced]
Diamond: Weapon Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Sapphire: Magic Attack [1, 2, 3] - Only usable on weapons
Garnet: Accuracy [2, 3, 5]
Opal: Avoid [2, 3, 5]
Aquamarine: Jump [1, 2, 3]
Amethyst: Speed [1, 2, 3]
Topaz: HP [10, 20, 30]
Emerald: MP [10, 20, 30]

Black Crystal: Random [1, 2, 3]

Dark Crystal: Random [2, 3, 5]
Power Crystal: STR [2, 3, 5]
DEX Crystal: DEX [2, 3, 5]
Wisdom Crystal: INT [2, 3, 5]
LUK Crystal: LUK [2, 3, 5]
Secret Crystal: Level Requirement [-1, -2, -3] - Not yet available in game.

[Low Grade, Mid Grade, High Grade]

Additional notes:
The final options in the Strengthen box include Intermediate and Advanced versions of all gems and crystals. These options allow you to upgrade 10 of your weaker versions of a gem or crystal into a stronger version. For example, if I made 10 Basic Diamonds when I wanted an Intermediate, I could use the Intermediate Diamond option in the scroll box to create 1 Intermediate Diamond. Each upgrade costs 10 of the previous level of gem or crystal and 330,000
mesos, and each attempt has the potential of failure. However, don't be discouraged - if you fail at creating a higher level gem or crystal, you receive 9 of your old gems/crystals back, thus losing a net of 1 in the process.

To appraise Dark Crystals and Black Crystals, you must have level 2 Item Maker. To upgrade Dark Crystals and Black Crystals, you must have level 3 Item Maker. To appraise all other jewels and crystals, you must have level 1 Item Maker. To upgrade them, though, you will need level 2 Item Maker.

Finally, for the crystals that give "Random" stats - the black crystal only affects the other stats which are labeled as "[1, 2, 3]", Topaz, or Emerald. Dark crystals only affect the other stats which are labeled as "[2, 3, 5]". So if you want to increase the LUK from a weapon, you'd use a Dark Crystal, not a Black Crystal. Consult the table to see which you need to use on your particular item.
